Face Pareidolia Is Enhanced by 40 Hz Transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation of the Face Perception Network
Joana Leitao, Bert Timmermans
Applying a weak alternating current at 40 Hz to areas of the brain associated with face processing significantly increases the likelihood that participants will perceive illusory faces in non-face images. The finding provides direct causal evidence that gamma-band neural synchrony in the face network is responsible for pareidolia.
