Testing for Questionable Research Practices in a Meta-Analysis: An Example from Experimental Parapsychology
Dick J. Bierman, James P. Spottiswoode
Meta-analyses are widely used to assess the overall evidence for psi phenomena such as the Ganzfeld telepathy protocol. This open-access PLOS ONE paper introduces a simulation method for estimating how much of a meta-analytic result could be explained by questionable research practices. Applying it to the Ganzfeld database, the authors find the published effect size is likely inflated, though a residual significant effect persists.
