Edmund Gurney, Frederic W. H. Myers
Published in 1886, this landmark work by Edmund Gurney, Frederic Myers, and Frank Podmore compiled and attempted to verify over seven hundred first-person accounts of apparitions, crisis visions, and apparent telepathic impressions. It was the first systematic attempt to apply evidential standards to spontaneous paranormal reports and remains a foundational text in the history of psychical research.

F. W. H. Myers's posthumously published work (1903) synthesised decades of psychical research into a theory of human consciousness, attempting to account for hypnotic phenomena, automatic writing, and apparitions within a single psychological framework. The "subliminal self" concept introduced here influenced both early psychology and psychical research methodology.
Henry Sidgwick, Alice Johnson
Volume 10 of the SPR Proceedings (1894) contains the landmark "Report on the Census of Hallucinations" — the largest systematic survey of anomalous perceptual experiences undertaken in the nineteenth century. Over 17,000 people were asked whether they had ever had a vivid hallucination while awake; roughly 10% reported at least one such experience.
