Dedicated paranormal detection software from eXtremeSenses. Claims to detect electromagnetic and energy anomalies using PC hardware sensors. 100,000+ downloads. Includes ITC word generation and environmental displays. Methodology is disputed but widely used in the community.

XParanormal Detector is the flagship product from eXtremeSenses, a company dedicated to producing paranormal investigation software since the mid-2000s. The free Basic version includes an EMF-style detection display, a pseudo-scientific energy level display, and an ITC word generator that selects phonemes from a dictionary to form apparent words as responses. The Premium version adds additional detection modes and larger word bank options.

The software's claims are methodologically problematic: network adapters are not designed or calibrated as EMF sensors, and any signal they produce when used this way is electromagnetic interference from the adapter's own antenna circuits rather than environmental fields. The ITC word generator uses random selection from a dictionary — the responses are random word strings, not communications.

From a PRN perspective, XParanormal Detector is best understood as an ITC experiential tool rather than a scientific instrument. Investigators who report compelling sessions describe it similarly to ghost box sessions — the experience of seeing apparently relevant words appearing, regardless of mechanism, can be psychologically significant and worth documenting as a reported phenomenon. The software includes timestamps for all detected events, useful for correlation with other evidence streams.

Strengths

  • Free basic version widely accessible
  • Over 100,000 downloads — large community reference base
  • Timestamps all events for cross-referencing with other evidence
  • Temperature and barometric data display (from weather APIs)
  • ITC word log exportable for session records

Limitations

  • Network adapter EMF detection is not scientifically valid
  • ITC word generation is random dictionary selection — not controlled ITC
  • Windows only
  • Detection methodology is not peer-reviewed or validated

Investigator Note

XParanormal Detector should not be described as a scientific instrument. Its 'EMF detection' is not calibrated electromagnetic measurement. Its word generation is random. Use it as an experiential ITC tool if you choose, but document it as such and do not present its outputs as objective evidence without corroboration from calibrated instruments.
