Investigation Summary
Wrest Park is a Grade I registered landscape at Silsoe, Bedfordshire, with formal gardens developed over several centuries and a French-inspired mansion built for Thomas Robinson, 2nd Earl de Grey, between 1834 and 1839. During the First World War the house became a convalescent home and then a military hospital; a major fire on 14 September 1916 ended that use after all 156 patients were evacuated. Its current paranormal reputation rests mainly on two English Heritage-transmitted anecdotes published in October 2025: figures resembling soldiers said to disappear into the woods, and the sound of a bouncing ball heard in the staircase hall after visitors had left.
