Investigation Summary
The Derrygonnelly case concerns raps, scratching sounds, falling stones and displaced household objects reported at an unidentified rural cottage near Derrygonnelly, County Fermanagh, in 1877. Physicist William F. Barrett published a near-contemporary account in the Dublin University Magazine that December and revisited it in the Society for Psychical Research Proceedings in 1911.
The source chain, named observers and Barrett’s attempted rap-count test make the case historically important, but no exact farmhouse, complete household statements, continuous records, physical evidence or replicable controls survive.
