Investigation Summary
Shepton Mallet Prison is a nationally important former house of correction and prison in Somerset, with documented civil, wartime and military use from the early seventeenth century until closure in 2013. Its modern haunting reputation centres on the promoted “White Lady” story and reports of figures, voices, footsteps, perfume, cold areas, moving doors, screams and equipment responses. The prison’s architecture and institutional history are well documented, but the principal paranormal accounts are retrospective, often anonymous and heavily transmitted through paid tours and investigations.
