Investigation Summary

Greyfriars Kirkyard is a nationally important Edinburgh burial ground with documented links to the National Covenant, the confinement of Covenanter prisoners and the 1691 mausoleum of Lord Advocate Sir George Mackenzie. The modern “Mackenzie Poltergeist” is chiefly a tour-era legend reported from around 1999. Visitor claims of scratches, fainting, bruises and pressure are culturally significant but lack independent incident, medical or controlled-investigation records. PRN separates the verified history and 2003 mausoleum desecration from commercial claim repetition and assesses paranormal causation as unsupported.
