Investigation Summary
Brestovac was a specialist tuberculosis sanatorium opened on Medvednica above Zagreb in 1909 through the work of physicians including Milivoj Dežman and Ivan Ancel. It became associated with actress Ljerka Šram, a tuberculosis patient who died there in 1913, but the institution was a wider medical and social project rather than a private monument built solely for her. Brestovac closed around 1968–1969 as tuberculosis treatment changed and the complex fell into ruin.
Modern travel and paranormal media claim that Šram visits wards, blood-covered figures cross the hillside, tunnels held dying patients and investigators record electromagnetic or shadow anomalies. PRN found no original witness dossier, staff record, authenticated media or controlled investigation for these stories. The ruined forest site presents obvious acoustic, visual, structural and psychological confounds.
The case is recorded as important medical heritage with later abandoned-place folklore, not verified paranormal activity.
